MP3: NEW EFTERKLANG SONG! - Modern Drift

Sometime last week, Efterklang announced the deets on their new LP entitled Magic Chairs. "Modern Drift" is the new song which introduces us to "a new Efterklang sound." A little more delicate and upbeat than the usual orchestrated bombardment of overwhelming but gorgeous sound. This is still Efterklang, but they have grown to incorporate a fresh vibe for 2010. Magic Chairs will be out Feb 22nd on their new home at 4AD.

[video] Mos Def + Talib Kweli (feat. Amber Coffman and Haley Dekle)- History

Mos Def and Talib Kweli. Plus Amber and Haley from The Dirty Projectors...with The Roots as the backing band...it's like the perfect storm for an awesome performance. Just on a side note, if 2009 wasn't full to the brim with amazing albums, Mos Def's 'The Ecstatic' would have been very high on my top albums list. If you haven't heard it yet, I suggest you go out and get it.

Mos Def- History

THANXGIVING PLAYLIZT

Can't believe it's Thanksgiving already. Here's a little playlist I threw together. Based it more on the mood of the songs than the lyrics. It's best for the after dinner tryptophanic/drunk slumber. Share it with the family and friends while you reminisce and share stories about each others lives. Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

MP3 :: Monarques - Everybody Needs Somebody To Love
MP3 :: Bowerbirds - Northern Lights
MP3 :: The Walkmen - New Country
MP3 :: Volcano Choir - Sleepymouth
MP3 :: Stars - On Peak Hill
MP3 :: Grizzly Bear - Little Brothers
MP3 :: Dilute - Apple
MP3 :: Jets To Brazil - Autumn Walker

For the family that likes movies instead of tunes, Home Alone is on FX until midnight in the east coast. I've already watched it twice.

MP3: Boomsnake - Sticks Stones & Animal Bones

edit: [San Diego's] Boomsnake have grown in size and sound. A re-recorded song from the upcoming EP [Re/visions] is lead by the clicking and interesting percussion while the droney and howling voices reflect the spirits of their album art.

MP3 :: Boomsnake - Sticks Stones & Animal Bones

Re/visions will be out Jan 12 of 2010 via Grizzly Records.

DIGI DREAMS' BEST ALBUMS OF 2009: PART TWO

Our list for the top 10 albums of 2009 was carefully constructed and negotiated by myself and Tony. And this time we'll give you some reasons as to WHY we chose what we chose. Be sure to check out our own personal lists in the comments section after this post and feel free to give us your own opinions on what you thought was your fave album of 09.

TOP 20-11

Honorable Mentions:
Here We Go Magic - S/T

Florence + The Machine - Lungs
Coalesce - OX
Rain Machine - S/T
Wild Beasts - Two Dancers
Mos Def - The Ecstatic

10. jj - jj n° 2 [7/1 - Sincerely Yours]

jj captured my interest earlier this summer while the pavement was just starting to build up some steam. Their debut lp was like a Supersoaker 50 for the ears. - Evan

fave track :: from africa to málaga

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart own a small piece of my soul, and this record is exactly why. -Tony

8. The Love Language - S/T [2/10 - Bladen County]

I found The Love Language while spending a cold night in November of 2008 searching for new music to feed on. Their music carried this fresh and vibrant aura of not-so-lo-fi love. - Evan

fave track :: Sparxxx

********

7. Do Make Say Think - Other Truths [10/21 - Constellation Records]

Four songs. Forty minutes. Each song feels like a new season and without any singer or lyrics, this record made me feel something new as each song built and progressed into their beautiful endings. -Tony

fave track :: Do

6. Bat For Lashes - Two Suns [6/4 - Astralwerks]

Natasha Khan's sophmore effort opens with her soft voice caressing the morning dew of a subway until you're taken away from the busy bustle by tribal drums from a far away land. A gorgeous album overall. - Evan

fave track :: Glass

********

5. Beirut/Realpeople - March Of The Zapotec/Holland EP [2/17 - Ba Da Bing Records]

Two EPs with two completely different feels. Zach Condon topped himself with this collection of songs. He has a 19 piece band (The Jiminez Band) backing him throughout March Of The Zapotec, and Holland is credited to Realpeople, his early musical moniker. Such a diverse and carefully crafted sound...it's amazing that he is only 23 years old. -Tony

fave track :: Beirut - The Shrew
fave track :: Real People - My Night With The Prostitute From Marseille

4. Why? - Eskimo Snow [9/22 - Anticon]

Always very lyrically entertaining, Why? really went out on a limb with Eskimo Snow, as it is his least hip-hop oriented work to date...and he somehow perfectly brought it all together and still maintained his personality throughout the record. -Tony

fave track :: Berkeley By Hearseback

********

3. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest [5/26 - Warp]

Easily one of the most anticipated albums of 2009, Veckatimest stands out with it's flawless tracklist and it's impeccable knack for capturing every mood. - Evan

fave track :: Ready, Able

********

2. Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix [5/26 - V2/Loyauté]
When they wrote this record, do you think they knew that they annihilated (almost) everything else that would be released in 2009? Such a pristine collection of songs. If you don't own this record, you need to buy it. Now. -Tony

fave track :: Lisztomania

********

1. Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion [1/20 - Domino]

I totally called it. 2009 would be Animal Collective's year with the anticipated and loved Merriweather Post Pavilion. The first time I listened to this album, my heart was pounding with excitement while the first track ["In The Flowers"] made MPP bloom into a colorful and perfect welcome to this year. -Evan

fave tracks :: My Girls , Brothersport

DIGI DREAMS' BEST ALBUMS OF 2009: PART ONE

The time has come for us to share our "best of" lists. It's been one hell of a year for some damn good music. So hard, that it's almost entirely impossible to make a cohesive list of the limited top picks.

I'm pretty sure you've seen some of the same albums if you read other music blogs. And the artists deserve the credit whole-heartedly for putting out amazing music. If you haven't heard of an album in the list[s], I highly suggest visiting some friends at your local record shop. If you don't have a local shop, hit up insound.com and support the cause.

We're not only basing our top 20 on how many times we've rotated an album, we're also basing it on how solid the entire album is from front to back - start to finish. If a record keeps our attention for more than 5 songs straight, chalk it up. [this list includes EP's]

Let's get it on:

20. Dinosaur Jr. - Farm [6/23 - Jagjaguwar]

MP3 : Summer Dregs - Bones

Somewhere deep in southern Tenneseee [Chattanooga] lives Carl Cadwell - a dude who recently collaborated with some fellow musicians to bring you Summer Dregs and their new album From Gold To Green. The first single, Bones, is a summery, chill-dance tune about living life to the fullest and leaving the past where it should be.

Save it on your iTunes for the next summer road trip you go on or use it to get yourself out of the upcoming winter blues.

MP3: NEW Beach House - Norway

It took me a little while to get into Beach House at first. It took the help of a friend making a little mix tape for me which included a few songs by them. I kept asking who it was and got the same surprising answer every time. It's been a few years since they dropped Devotion all over our asses. The hype for the next LP entitled Teen Dream is almost as overwhelming as G-bear which makes a lot of sense.

Check out the first official single "Norway" which is a little more sunny than the usual Beach House. It's like they finally drew the curtains open that kept them in the darkness for so long but still didn't want to wake up.

Teen Dream comes out on Jan 26, 2010 via Sub Pop

MP3: MOTORBIKES - Two Tempos

I came across this band named Motorbikes sometime last week while surfing my way around myspace and was instantly drawn in with their brand of chill indie jams. This Washington state duo consists of Paul and Nich who also run a little label for themselves called Fontee Fount where they released Motorbikes' first LP, New Color. The track "Two Tempos" is a slow building and infectious tune that you'll be caught humming for at least a couple days.

MP3 :: Motorbikes - Two Tempos.

New Color is available now at Fontee Fount. Ten bucks gets you the disc in a nice, hand-sewn card-stock gatefold sleeve complete with lyrics document and reclaimed art print.

MP3: Xylos - In The Bedroom

Wow is all I really need to say about Brookyln's next big thing. At first listen, I can already feel a deep rush from ears to my heart [as cheesy as that sounds...it's true]. Sunny indie jams and tales of breakup played with a passion that I haven't witnessed in a long time. They're currently getting ready to embark on a little tour from NY to Mass to DC to Philly to NJ. I highly suggest catching them on the rise as their debut LP drops bombs in December.

You can download a FREE zip file of their debut EP here

MP3: Crystal Antlers - It's All Over Now, Baby Blue [bob dylan cover]

Crystals Antlers turn themselves a little less spazz-blues-rock and a little more folk with a wonderful cover of Bobby Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue." It's a nice change from the sluggish/drunk Dylan voice but I still don't think it holds up to the original. Yet again, do covers ever trample the masters?

SATURDAY IN VIDS: Ani Co // Monsters Of Folk // Rain Machine // Real Estate

Ani Co really "gets" their audience. Does the audience get them? I'm not really sure. Check out their new video for MWPP's opening track "In Flowers" directed by Avey Tare's sister.

MP3: Best Coast - This Is Real + When I'm With You

Best Coast [aka Bethany Cosentino] has been making some serious waves tsunamis with her brand of lo-fi, surf pop. Earlier today, Black Iris released her latest 7" - a 2-song indie explosion of good times and echoed vocals. It's kind of like listening to your new favorite band from outside your local venue - raw, entrancing and insanely catchy. Side A side contains a 50s influenced love song as she confesses her heart to a lucky guy - "when i'm with you i have fun." The other side is an infectious jam called "This Is Real." If you don't end up singing along, there might be something wrong with you.

Overall, the 7" is a well-produced lo-fi jam [if that makes any sense] of 2 of the years catchiest songs that should have been released in the summer.

MP3: Yeasayer - Ambling Alp [memory tapes remix]

Amid his busy schedule, New Jersey's bedroom pop solo dude Dayve Hawk aka Memory Tapes aka Memory Cassette aka Weird Tapes turned Yeasayer's newest upbeat/life changing/horn-enhanced single "Ambling Alp" into a dance floor friendly/happiest-bass-line-ever jam. You can find it on the Ambling Alp Single via Secretly Canadian along with a DJ/Rupture remix and an instrumental version.

MP3 :: Yeasayer - Ambling Alp [memory tapes remix]

MP3: Post Post - Wolf

In 2008, four junior's from Bryn Mawr college in PA came together to form a dreamy indie pop quartet called Post Post. These ladies recorded their debut EP called Meta Meta with two mics, apple's garageband application and passion for creating the music that they love.

Meta Meta is out now and is available for a one cent minimum on Awkwardcore. I suggest being a little generous and donating more. $5 gets you a physical copy...just saying

MP3 :: Post Post - Wolf

And also be SURE to catch them on November 27th with Free Energy and Tough Shits @ Kung Fu Necktie [tix].

MP3: BONELESS - Breathless + Warm Breeze

From Nevada comes chill, summer, bed-room jams from Isaac Knight. Isaac contacted me a while ago when he went by the name Destroy It. I was pretty impressed as the music separated itself from the usual suspects and massaged my brain with the smooth sounds. Check out a couple tracks from his upcoming demo/EP. Breathless is a super-soaked jam to help cool down any last heat wave of a forgotten summer while Warm Breeze is a friendly reminder of a season to look forward to. All are great examples of stream-of- conscious song writing.

MP3: Chandeliers - Mango Tree

This week hasn't been much of anything in the "new music" department.

Chicago's Chandeliers tear up the electro-percussion thing with Mango Tree from their 2008 LP called The Thrush [via Obey Your Brain]. Mango Tree is an accumulation of funk bounces, found sounds and unclassifiable style in the realm of Tyondai Braxton's classical mind trip.
